Guest Editorial Special Section on Switched Capacitor Converters (SCCs)

Switched capacitor converters (SCCs) have been widely investigated and used in both academia industry for many years, ranging from low power (milliwatt level) to high (several kilowatt levels) a myriad of applications. SCCs offer several advantages, including the elimination inductor related magnetic design issues hence electromagnetic interference (EMI), better form factor or density, improved dynamic response. Despite tremendous benefits, main drawback is their inevitable inrush current during capacitors' charging charge sharing process by parallel connection with dc-link adversely impacting stress on devices thus reducing efficiency reliability system. However, there still huge room performance improvement introducing small resonant integrating best features capacitive inductive conversion. Such “hybrid” concept can simultaneously achieve efficiency, reliability, density.
